The menu also includes a selection of pies, and for those seeking something lighter, a range of fresh salads are available. It’s a place that caters to every taste, and even if you're a regular, there's always something new to try. And let’s not forget about their homemade tartar sauce - it’s the perfect addition to any meal, offering a tangy kick that complements the rich flavors of the fried fish.

  • This restaurant stands out for its professional and friendly customer service. I truly enjoyed my experience here — the food was extremely delicious, well prepared, and the portions were more than sufficient. The restaurant itself is very spacious, beautifully designed, and comfortable, and most of the time it does not require a prior reservation, which makes it very convenient. They also offer a halal menu for those who are looking for halal food options. Overall, I loved this place and would highly recommend giving it a try. In my opinion, it is one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh and definitely worth visiting.”

  • Went here for fish and chips as we walked by. The fish was really nice and crispy, but the chips weren’t that great. Felt a bit cold and not that much fried, but our waiter gave us a whole new dish, including the fish, and it better! Tho the chips still weren’t like fries afterwards, the service put up for most of it. It’s a really nice place - highly recommended! Menu is extensive and has lots of other on offer.

  • We decided to have fish & chips for our first night in Edinburgh. Why not have some proper ones? I actually bookmarked this place because of the awesome menu items. It also happens to be on the most touristy street in the city. But don't let that scare you off. The battered fish is very good here. It was the twice-cooked chips that didn't live up to the hype. I think the sweet potato fries would have been a better choice. Their World Famous Battered Haddock is the way to go here. It's what they are known for. We loved the light & crispy batter. The haddock was white & tender. That was the high point of our meal. The chips were hard and lukewarm. We didn't say anything because there was no way we'd be able to eat them all even if they brought out a fresher batch. It's just a side item that we didn't need anyway. I'd usually go for mushy peas or onion rings, but I think it would have been an extra charge to get them. We did share a Deep Fried Mars Bar. It was a rich & delicious treat. A great sweet ending to a very nice meal. The décor and atmosphere is wonderful here. There's a big red bow above the entrance with a takeaway counter at the ground level. You'll see the Christmas tree on the second level as you're heading up to the restaurant. The bar & restaurant on the next 2 floors are bright & spacious with lots of seating options. The service was great as well. Noah made it a nice experience. We would definitely visit again if ever in Edinburgh.

  • Bertie’s Fish and Chips, nestled near Edinburgh Castle, is a must-visit for foodies after exploring the castle grounds. Among the many fish and chip restaurants we tried in Scotland, it stands out as one of the best. The fish is expertly prepared, with a tender interior and a golden, crunchy batter. The chips are cooked to perfection, and the tartar sauce is the star of the show. It perfectly binds all the flavours together, making each bite a delight. The staff is friendly and attentive, even recommending our dessert, the toffee sticky pudding. Everyone in my family thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Bertie’s Fish and Chips if you’re in the area. Just be prepared to book in advance, as they can get busy, especially during peak hours.

  • ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Excellent experience. I ordered the Breaded Haddock with Chips and it was absolutely delicious. The fish was fresh and tender on the inside with a light, crispy coating, and the chips were perfectly cooked in the traditional British style. The tartar sauce complemented the dish very well, and the service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality fish and chips. I would definitely visit again.
